The Snug
|
|
'A sluggish indolence pervades. The stranger, coaxing his boat up-river in a sudden windless
calm, ignoring the busy harbour, casts anchor with a yawn beside
pool or creek, then lolls by the tiller, too idle to row ashore. Peace prevails. The tide ebbs. The trees darken, the birds are
hushed and there is no sound except the whisper of water past
the anchor chain or the call of the night jar.'
Daphne du Maurier
